Job Summary

Join the legendary Queen Mary as our Museum Curator, where you'll bring history to life through compelling storytelling and world-class preservation. This exciting role combines scholarly expertise with creative exhibition design to ensure the ship's extraordinary maritime heritage is authentically preserved and engagingly presented to thousands of visitors. You'll be the guardian of history while creating memorable educational experiences aboard this iconic vessel.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Museum studies, History, Art, or a related field.
  • Strong research skills and experience in developing historical narratives for public audiences.
  • Knowledge of maritime history, ocean liners, or naval heritage preferred.
  • Experience with collections management systems and conservation best practices.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong organizational and project management abilities.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams.
  • Availability to work occasional weekends, evenings, and special events as needed. 

Job Responsibilities

  • Exhibition Development & Storytelling: Curate and design engaging permanent and rotating exhibits that highlight the Queen Mary's historical significance while developing educational content and tour narratives that captivate public audiences
  • Collections Management & Preservation: Oversee acquisition, cataloging, preservation, and conservation of artifacts, documents, and historical materials while maintaining The Queen Mary Archives and ensuring industry-standard preservation practices
  • Research & Historical Accuracy: Conduct comprehensive historical research to ensure exhibit accuracy, develop compelling historical narratives, and collaborate with the Attractions team to enhance guided tour experiences
  • Partnership & Collaboration: Build strategic relationships with historians, experts, museums, and historical organizations to enhance authenticity while serving as the primary contact for museum partners and stakeholders
  • Team Training & Standards Compliance: Provide training and support to Queen Mary Associates to ensure historical accuracy in storytelling while maintaining all museum operations according to industry standards and legal requirements
  • Grant Writing & Fundraising: Secure funding for exhibitions, conservation efforts, and educational programs through strategic grant writing, sponsorships, and partnership development
