Qualifications

  • Typically requires a high school diploma and 0 to 2 years of experience.
  • There's no specific educational background for the job but a current course in culinary sciences is an advantage.
  • Performs work under direct supervision.
  • Handles basic issues and problems, and refers more complex issues to higher-level staff.
  • Possesses beginning to working knowledge of subject matter.
  • Must have working knowledge on baked products, baking technologies, ingredients and baking procedures
  • Must have excellent oral communication and interpersonal skills

Job Responsibilities

  • Prepares and bakes bread, cakes, pies, pastries, or similar.
  • Mixes and proofs doughs or batters, bakes according to directions or recipes, and decorates if required.
  • Cleans and sanitizes cooking tools or utensils or food preparation areas.
  • Maintains equipment and appliances. Follows appropriate food safety and handling policies.
  • May clean and sanitize mixers, bowls, pans, ovens, and or other materials used for baking purposes or storage of baked goods.
  • Regularly monitor color of products being baked and make adjustments to oven temperatures and other settings to achieve the correct baking level.
  • Makes certain that bakery products are safely handled and stored in a sanitized manner.
  • Processes specialty orders for customers, which includes decorating cakes and other bakery items as requested.
  • Check to ensure that baking equipment complies with health and safety regulations.
  • Tracks and records inventory; rotates stock of bakery items, to ensure freshness of products and changes price labels as directed.
